Dogecoin 是一種基於「Doge」迷因的開源數位貨幣，作為點對點快速支付和數位打賞的中介。與有企業實體支持的項目不同，其價值由全球社群驅動，並且該項目由一群去中心化的志願者和非營利組織 Dogecoin Foundation 管理，而非正式公司。 此項目最初於 2013 年由軟體工程師 Billy Markus 和 Jackson Palmer 作為市場玩笑而創立，從未進行公開銷售或創投融資。該網路是 LuckyCoin 的分叉，而 LuckyCoin 本身又是 Litecoin 的分叉，採用工作量證明（proof of work）共識機制。它使用 Scrypt 演算法以確保挖礦過程快速高效，每 60 秒處理一個新區塊。一個獨特的技術特點是採用合併挖礦（merged mining），讓礦工可以同時保護 Dogecoin 與其他基於 Scrypt 的網路（如 Litecoin）。 為了維持低交易費用並讓網路無限期運作，Dogecoin 採用無上限供應，不斷新增新幣。2026 年 3 月，在一項重大的監管里程碑中，SEC 和 CFTC 的聯合框架正式將 Dogecoin 歸類為數位商品，將其置於與黃金或石油相同的資產類別。
