Ordinals

Ordinals is a protocol for the Bitcoin blockchain that allows users to inscribe digital content directly onto individual satoshis, the smallest unit of Bitcoin. These inscriptions are tracked on-chain and effectively create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) native to Bitcoin, without requiring a separate layer or smart contracts. The protocol introduced a way to assign ordinal numbers to satoshis and embed arbitrary data, enabling a new wave of Bitcoin-based digital artifacts.
