Dogecoinは「Doge」ミームに基づいたオープンソースのデジタル通貨で、高速な支払いとデジタルチップのためのピアツーピア媒体として機能します。企業団体に支えられたプロジェクトとは異なり、その価値はグローバルコミュニティによって推進され、プロジェクトは正式な企業ではなく、分散型のボランティアグループと非営利のDogecoin Foundationによって管理されています。 元々は2013年にソフトウェアエンジニアのBilly MarkusとJackson Palmerによって市場のパロディとして作成され、このプロジェクトは公開販売やベンチャーキャピタルラウンドは行われていません。ネットワークはLuckyCoinのフォークとして動作しており、LuckyCoin自体がLitecoinのフォークであり、プルーフ・オブ・ワークのコンセンサスメカニズムを使用しています。Scryptアルゴリズムを採用してマイニングプロセスを高速かつ効率的に保ち、新しいブロックは60秒ごとに処理されます。独自の技術的特徴として、マージドマイニングを使用しており、マイナーはLitecoinなどの他のScryptベースのネットワークと同時にDogecoinを保護できます。 取引手数料を低く抑え、ネットワークを無期限に稼働させるために、Dogecoinは無制限の供給を特徴としており、新しいコインが永久に追加されます。2026年3月の大きな規制上のマイルストーンとして、SECとCFTCの共同枠組みにより、Dogecoinは正式にデジタルコモディティに分類され、金や石油と同じ資産カテゴリに位置付けられました。
